If you’re a seasoned road cyclist looking for a challenge, Ilfracombe and North Devon have plenty to offer. One of the most popular but challenging routes is the circular ride from Ilfracombe over Exmoor, through Lynton and Lynmouth and back! This route takes you through the heart of Exmoor National Park, with its steep climbs and exhilarating descents. It’s full of fantastic scenery and plenty of stops along the way.
For something shorter, the local roads around Ilfracombe offer great riding and scenery. Be warned, some of the hills are very steep, and these routes aren’t suitable for family rides, experienced cyclists only. We also recommend heading out early if you’re here in the summer, as our narrow countryside roads can become very busy, especially around Woolacombe, Croyde, and Braunton.
Another must-try route is the Devon Coast to Coast, a 99-mile journey from Ilfracombe to Plymouth. This iconic route takes you through the stunning landscapes of Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks, offering a mix of challenging climbs and scenic countryside. Ilfracombe Pier, right next to Verity, is the official starting point for this unforgettable cycling adventure!
